INSIGHT Program
Parthenon Pavilion’s INSIGHT program is offering psychiatric patients a new way to partner in their care.
INSIGHT, which stands for “Individualized Need-Based System of Integrated Goals for a Healthy Tomorrow,” is an innovative Treatment Mall concept that allows patients to leave the units and participate in programming based on their own individual needs and mental health diagnoses.
In the past, patients received therapy according to the specific unit to which they were assigned. Now, patients will leave their units each day and interact with individuals, staff and therapists from other units in the Treatment Mall.
In addition to core classes (which are developed by staff based upon specific diagnoses), patients will have the opportunity to participate in an array of groups and skill-based classes. Working with their care coordinators, patients will determine which electives they would like to include as a part of their treatment.
This is important because patients often have more than one issue that needs to be addressed. For example, they may have a primary disorder along with substance abuse disorders, trauma issues, childhood abuse, anger management issues or an eating disorder. The INSIGHT program allows patients to work on resolving several different issues during their treatment, not just their primary disorder.
Allowing patients more choices in their treatment provides increased ownership and an environment more similar to the outside community. As a result, patients leave better prepared to go back into society and armed with solutions to keep them healthy.
Although not a brand new concept, Treatment Mall programming is new to Middle Tennessee. Considered a “best practice” in the delivery of bio-psychosocial treatment, Treatment Mall programming started in the state hospital system and has been tailored to work for Parthenon Pavilion’s patient populations.
